The Barn at Shady Lane is truly a place where one is surrounded by pastoral beauty and feels miles away from the hustle of urban life. Yet this little piece of heaven is located just one mile from the Renaissance Ross Bridge Marriott and nestled at the entrance to the first Robert Trent Golf Trail, Oxmoor Valley Golf. Complete with vintage furnished Bride’s Loft, cool Groom’s Cottage, indoor and outdoor venue space, antique furnishings and materials all around and seating for 300. How far out should I book my wedding?
We are often booked a year in advance on Saturdays. Friday and even Sunday weddings are also very popular at Shady Lane. Book your venue before anything else. All of your other ideas will be shaped by your venue choice.

How much time is allowed for rehearsal?
We allow one hour for rehearsals, which are scheduled in cooperation with wedding parties which may occur on the day before.
What is the seating capacity of The Barn?
We can seat 300 theater style for indoor ceremonies
Seated around tables of 10, seating capacity is 250 with an 8' square stage in center.

We can seat 300 for outdoor ceremonies
Do you host weddings on days other than Saturdays?
Absolutely! Most all year long we host weddings on at least two weekend days, and many times do Friday, Saturday and Sunday weddings. Each day has its own flair and we encourage brides who can't find a Shady Lane Saturday, to consider a fun Friday night or a relaxed Sunday wedding.
How many hours do we get to be on site?
We open at 9 am and the property is yours for the day. Ceremony / Reception maximum time is 4.5 hours, including the estimated 30 minutes for Ceremony. If your event is reception only, the reception time is 4 hours max.
How many tables & Chairs come with our venue rental?
Each venue rental comes with 28 60" round tables, six farm tables, 10 hi-boy cocktail tables & 250 mahogany Chiavari chairs.
Outdoor ceremonies which require matching Chiavari chairs can be rented from The Barn at Shady Lane for a nominal set up fee.
Do you provide linens?
We do not provide linens but can recommend some wonderful rental providers by going to our Vendors list.
Do we have to use your caterer?
All of our guests choose from among our list of over one dozen Birmingham area professional, insured and qualified caterers. Ranging in price and menu options, these caterers are proven professionals who are committed to making your event at Shady Lane amazing on every level.
Is alcohol allowed at The Barn at Shady Lane
Alcohol is allowed, but must be brought on site and removed from the site on the day of the event and by the client. A bar tender is required and is usually available thru the caterer. Uniformed security will also be provided by The Barn at Shady Lane at a cost of $160 for a four hour period when alcohol is consumed.
Can we do both the ceremony and the reception at Shady Lane?
Yes. The majority of our brides choose to have both events at Shady Lane.
What is involved if both ceremony and reception are held in The Barn? Is there a Plan B?
Remember to factor in the “flip” if both events are indoors. The Shady Lane team and your caterer and their team will convert The Barn from ceremony to tables and chairs in a matter of minutes immediately following the ceremony. Guests are excused to the three patio areas while the flip is taking place. Then the big doors are reopened and BAM, your guests are welcomed back into a whole new space!
If the ceremony is outdoors, are there additional costs?
The only additional cost is if you rent matching Chiavari chairs from The Barn at Shady Lane. The rental fee is $3/chair.
Can we have whatever caterer or florist we want?
All caterers must come from our approved vendor list. These professional, licensed and insured caterers represent Birmingham's finest and range in a broad variety of foods and prices. Florists and photographers are your choice.
